Franklin, VA – Lannie Gardner Dail Scott, born September 24, 1941, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025 at the age of 83.  Lannie is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Henry L. and Elsie Gardner, her husband of 32 years, Joseph Leroy Dail Jr., and then her late husband Col. Richard Scott.

She is survived by her brother Henry "Hank" McGuire Gardner of West Melbourne, Florida, her stepson, Michael Dail (Amy) of Kill Devil Hills, NC and her step-daughter Deanna Larion (Ken) of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Tobie.

Lannie graduated from Franklin High School in 1960, and from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) in 1964 with a BA in Sociology. She was a teacher at several schools from 1968-1979. She owned and managed a gift shop in Franklin (ELGEE'S) from 1989-1991. She then got into Real Estate with Venture Properties from 1996-1998 when she retired.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church for 35 years, a member of Courtland United Methodist Church for 14 years, a member of Franklin Baptist Church until Joe and her moved to the Outer Banks in retirement and joined the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

Lannie enjoyed gardening, making flower arrangements, needle-work, reading and watercolor painting.

In honor of Lannie's life, a funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Wright Funeral Home at 2PM. Burial will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin.  In memory of Lannie, donations can be made to your local Animal Shelter.
