Courtland - Kenneth D. Sewell passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2023 in Courtland, Virginia.  Mr. Sewell is survived by his devoted wife of sixty years, Carol Sewell.  He was a beloved father and father-in-law to Sharon and Rusty Carter of Farmville, Virginia, Doug and Donna Sewell of Suffolk, Virginia and Deborah and David Austring of Newmarket, Ontario.  A loving grandfather, he will be missed by his grandchildren Lindsay Wallbillich (Connor), Jill Carter (Taylor Scott), Luke Sewell, Carolanne Austring and Rebekah Austring.  He is also survived by his  brother,  Vernon Sewell, Jr.  He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Sallie Sewell and brother John Sewell.

Mr. Sewell was born in Valrico, Florida and had been a resident of Southampton County, Virginia since 2006.  He served his country in the United States Navy for 26 years and retired as a Senior Chief.  He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon.  Prior to moving to Southampton County, he was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia and served as a deacon.

Mr. Sewell enjoyed camping and fishing, and exploring North America in his motorhome with Carol.  They both enjoyed playing dominoes with friends and family.  He introduced his children to his outdoor passions  on many trips to Kerr Lake and North Bend Park.  An athlete in his youth, he lettered in high school football and track at Brandon High School in Brandon, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at Courtland Baptist Church on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.    A reception will follow at the church immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your local animal shelter or favorite charity.
