Chocowinity, North Carolina - Julian Piland Whitley, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully in his home on May 12, 2026 with his family by his side. Born and raised in Franklin, VA, he was the son of the late Julian Piland Whitley, Sr. and Mamie Scott Whitley and is predeceased by a sister, Glenda Whitley Helms Sterling and a brother Nelson Scott "Scottie" Whitley.
Julian was a graduate of Franklin High School and a US Air Force veteran. He was a retired Electronics Communications Specialist for the US Government. He spent over 30 years serving at posts around the world and at home. As a true patriot, he was proud to serve his country. Julian loved his family, playing golf, and the United States of America.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Sandra Sue King Whitley; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Whitley (Claire) and Rendy Reynolds (Matthew); a sister, Alice W. Jones (Tim); a sister-in-law, Cathy Whitley; two grandsons, Benjamin and Jackson Reynolds; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Wednesday, May 20, 2026 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA, with Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. Private burial will take place at Southampton Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be made to the United Service Organization (www.uso.org).
