Julia Peele Jernigan, 74, passed away February 21, 2018 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 9, 1943 in Colerain, NC to the late John and Athia Peele and was also predeceased by a brother Spencer Peele and a grandson Ryan P. Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 58 years, Richard H. Jernigan; her children Debbie Jackson (Mike), Elaine Umphlette (Larry), and Richie Jernigan (Nikki); five grandchildren Paul Jackson (Ayumi), Taylor Jackson (Franci), Michael Parker , Bradley and Nicholas Jernigan; one great-grandchild Logan Parker; a sister Rachel Chopps (Dan); along with many relatives and friends.

Julia was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Preston Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and at the home of Richard and Julia after the service. Memorial donations should be made to the charity of one's choice.
