Courtland – Julia Stephenson Gray, 77, passed away January 7, 2018 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Odell and Frances Grubbs Joyner and was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel Wayne Stephenson, Sr.

Julia was a graduate of Southampton High School and the Pan American Business School. She retired from Union Camp Corporation where she worked as a secretary for many years. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Franklin Lewis Gray; two daughters, Selinda S. Green of Smithfield and Marian G. Lewis of Mechanicsville; a son, Samuel Wayne Stephenson, Jr. of Courtland; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland with the Rev. Dr. Robert Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, Friday from 5-7 PM and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org .
