Zuni – Joyce Brewer Shaffer, 84, passed away April 10, 2024 in her home with her family by her side.  Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC and raised in Emporia, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Junious Brewer and Elma Hands Brewer.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Reynolds Shaffer, Jr.; a son, Larry R. Shaffer; and six siblings, Frances, Paul, Lelia, Gloradine "Goby", Dan, and Mary.

Joyce was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Terry S. Whitehead (Wayne); a son, Gary B. Shaffer (Kathy); a brother, Willie Brewer; a daughter-in-law, Cherene Shaffer; eight grandchildren, Eric Whitehead (Jamie), Luke Whitehead (Lexi), Kelsey Shaffer, Chase Shaffer, Kimberly Shaffer, Shelby Shaffer, Amber Lee, and Jessica Bolton; six great grandchildren, Emilee Whitehead, Savanah Turner, Matthew Lee, Mckenna Bolton, Brantley Bolton, and Liam Whitehead; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Faison officiating.  Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Joyce's friend and caregiver, Krystal Romines and to Gentiva Hospice caregivers, Angie Smith and Ebony Myrick.
