Franklin – John Oliver "J.J." Wood, Jr., 83, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Holland, he was a son of the late John O. Wood, Sr. and Mildred Ann Holland Wood and was predeceased by a brother, Glenn H. Wood. Mr. Wood was a retired maintenance foreman at Union Camp Corp., an active member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he had served in various capacities and a member of Hunterdale Ruritan Club where he was a past Chaplain.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Carrie Lee "Billie" Joyner Wood, sons, Larry Wood and wife, Fran, of Courtland and Jeffrey Wood and wife, Susan, of Franklin, two sisters, Patsy W. Price and husband, Charles, of Holland and Sue W. Powell and husband, James, of Suffolk, two brothers, Rev. Tom Wood and wife, Margie, of Portsmouth and Don Wood and wife, Ruth, of Holland, three grandchildren, one great grandchild sister-in-law, Esther Wood and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Wright Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Crump officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and suggest memorials be made to Sycamore Baptist Church or any favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
