Chesapeake – John Robert Wilson, Jr., went home to be with his Lord on October 20, 2022.  He was born in Richmond on December 30, 1968 and brought up in Emporia.

John was a 1987 graduate of Brunswick Academy and a 1991 graduate of Old Dominion University receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.  He was the District Equipment Manager for the Hampton Roads District of VDOT.

John was a loving, devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was passionate about helping people and went the extra mile to support those around him.  John made it a priority to attend all major school events for his children and loved spending time with his family and friends, especially cooking for them.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Sandra Sykes Wilson; his parents, John Robert "Bobby" Wilson, Sr. and Lorrell Merricks Wilson of Emporia; a daughter, Laura Annette Wilson of Harrisonburg; a son John Robert "Trey" Wilson, III of Harrisonburg; a sister, Pamela "Pam" Aerni (Paul) of Emporia; two nephews, Adam Aerni and Ryan Aerni (Amber); a great niece, Kimber Aerni; a very special aunt, Janie Brown of Emporia; and special friends Ledford and Lorie Wilson and Mike and Laura Howard.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Court Street Baptist Church, 447 Court Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704, with Dr. Wilbur Kersey and Pastor Sarah Locke officiating.  Friends are welcome at Sandy's residence anytime during the week and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Court Street Baptist Church.
