Sedley - John Roosevelt Wade passed away early Monday morning, February 26, 2024 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by his family. As he passed from his life into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior, we find comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into his everlasting home in Heaven. Though he is no longer with us in body, his presence will forever reside in our hearts and minds.
Born October 11, 1935 in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Samuel R. Wade and Elma Newsome Smith. He is survived by his wife, Edna Branche Wade; daughter, Sheron W. Ross (Cleon); son, John Randolph "Randy" Wade, Sr. (Janet); grandchildren, Jamie W. Elliott (Ralph), Wade Williams (Jessica), Jalyn R. Wade and John R. Wade, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ralphel "Ralphie" Elliott III, Madelyn R. Elliott, Isaiah A. Elliott, Emaline R. Williams and Cooper J. Williams; and sister, Sylvia Henson (Fred). He was preceded in his death by his brother, William "Billy" R. Wade.
John was a long-time member of Sedley Baptist Church. He attended Courtland High School and after high school, he met his wife and they were married in December of 1958. John and Edna were married for 65 years. He farmed for many years and worked for Burgess Trucking until he retired in 2005. John enjoyed mechanical work and gardening. He was a caring and loving son, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and husband.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sedley Baptist Church, Sedley Fire Department, or Rosemont Cemetery.
