Franklin – John Ivory Lowe, Jr., 71, died January 21, 2008. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late John Ivory and Dona Dundalow Lowe and was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Elmer Lowe. John was retired from Union Camp Corporation after 40 years service as a quality control shift foreman and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. He was an Eagle Scout, a former National Guardsman, and the unofficial mayor of Charlie's Family Campground, formerly Decharmarnel, where Betty and John spent the better part of 35 years with their very special beach friends on the Outer Banks.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Betty Eason Lowe; one daughter, Sharon L. Hill and husband, Carson; two sons, Kenneth R. Lowe and wife, Lynnette, Michael B. Lowe and wife, Tammy, all of Franklin; five grandchildren, Arick Hill and wife, Dawn, Tiffany Fancher and husband, Nick, Brittany Lowe, Winston J. Lowe, Matthew R. Lowe; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Hill; mother-in-law, Susie E. Eason; brother-in-law, Sidney Donald Eason; sister-in-law, Sylvia O. Lowe; three nieces, Lori Drake, Susan Windrum, Donna Rice; and a nephew, David Lowe.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 pm Thursday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress and the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
