John Daniel Fowler, Sr.

Franklin - John Daniel “Dan” Fowler, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully October 20th at home with his family by his side. Dan was born February 3, 1941 in Washington, DC and moved to Franklin with his family at the age of three. He was predeceased by his mother, Emily Finley Fowler, and his father, JWD Fowler.

Dan worked at Union Camp/International Paper for 40 years, retiring as supervisor. Following retirement, he worked several places that he enjoyed including the Peanut Patch and Village at Woods Edge. Dan was involved in many community activities: he was an original member of Franklin Fire and Rescue serving for 17 years, assistant scoutmaster with Troop 125 for eight years, assistant wrestling coach at Franklin High School for 10 years, Little League baseball coach for 15 years, and member of the Bronco Rod and Gun Club for 50 years. Dan was a former Virginia National Guardsman.

Dan was an active member of Franklin Baptist Church since 1954, serving as deacon and willing member of countless committees through the years. He loved his church and had a strong faith in God. He was a wonderfully loving husband and father. A friend to all, he never knew a stranger.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Patsy Fowler; two loving sons, Jack Fowler (Pam) and Jared Fowler; sister, Adelle Bradbury; nephew, Wayne Bradbury (Janet); niece Amy Bradbury; nephew Daniel Crumpler; mother-in-law, Letitia Crumpler; brother-in-law Dan Crumpler (Mandy); numerous cousins; and Mark and Michelle Beltrami, who were dearly loved and considered by Dan and Patsy to be their children.
