Zuni - John Richard "Buster" Horne, Sr, 65, passed away Monday, September 17, 2007. A native of Newport News, he was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a former employee of the Newport News Shipyard. Buster was a longtime Nascar fan who raced stockcars from 1961 thru the 1970's at the "Dude Ranch" now known as Langley Speedway.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Betty Mason Horne; his son, John R. "Buster" Horne, Jr., and wife, Jennifer of Williamsburg; sister, Mary Prevatte and husband, Gary, of Zuni; brother, Ervin Horne and wife, Mary, of Winchester; two grandchildren, Evan and Taylor Horne; two nieces, Marlene Skinner and Lori Ann Horne. He was predeceased by his parents, John Lori Horne and Mary Pauline Jones Horne Orebaugh and his step-father, Randolph Orebaugh.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 21st from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
