Zuni – John Melvin Askew, 70, passed away April 11, 2026 in Sentara Obici Hospital.  Born in Ahoskie, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Fred Melvin Askew and Margaret Hall Askew.  He was also predeceased by three brothers, Larry, Timmy, and Kenny Askew.

John was a Patient Technician for American Home Patient.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Yvonne Edwards Askew; a daughter, Melissa Askew Potts (Brian); a son, Brandon Keith Askew; a step-son, Wilbert Mack Reid (Breahna); a sister, Pamela Joy Castello (Billy); seven grandchildren, Shawn, Breydan, Sky, Tonya, Brian Jr., Tristyn, and Malakai; and three great grandchildren, Michael, Kehlani, and Lucianna.
