Franklin – Joan Harvey Edwards, 90 passed away October 15, 2024 in Asa's Neighborhood Memory Care Unit at The Village at Woods Edge.  She was born in Appomattox in 1933 to the late Mattie Mae Nash and William DeWitt Harvey who provided her with a nurturing, Christian upbringing.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Roger Danwood Edwards.

Joan was Valedictorian of Appomattox High School before studying Education at Longwood College in Farmville.  She was employed at Franklin High School where she taught shorthand and typing classes.  One of her students, Earl Edwards, introduced her to his brother Dan Edwards and they married on July 18, 1959.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, high school educator, member of Franklin Baptist Church, and a volunteer at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Joan was a former member of Central Baptist Church where she served as the pianist.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Wayne Edwards and Kenneth Edwards (Susanne); one grandson, Caleb Edwards (Darcy); and two great grandchildren, Bear Owen Edwards and Forest Nathan Edwards.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:30PM Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Poplin officiating.  Burial will follow the service in Poplar Spring Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service and suggests memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High Street, Franklin, VA 23851.
