Virginia Beach - On April 29, 2026, Jimmy L. Bradshaw, husband, father, enthusiastic naturalist, talented woodworker, dedicated environmentalist, and avid birdwatcher passed away peacefully at ninety.

The son of the late Johnnie and Matilda F. Bradshaw, Jimmy was born and raised in Walters, VA.  He graduated from Carrsville High School in 1954, embarked on a storied railroad career, and retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1996.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jimmy will be remembered for his creativity and love of the outdoors; both of which he impressed upon and gifted to his family members and friends in numerous and wonderful ways.

Jimmy dedicated much of his time to environmental causes. He enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing, and advocating for and sharing those passions with people he loved.

Quite the savant, Jimmy also possessed a creative streak. He drew, painted, and threw pottery, but will be best remembered for his woodworking skills. From fine antique reproductions to his beloved bird carvings, he put his heart, soul, and innate understanding of the natural world into everything he crafted.

Never a big sports spectator but always a competitor, Jimmy loved playing baseball and basketball in his younger years. Later in life, he eagerly engaged in volleyball or tennis against semi-willing competitors. During his retirement, he enjoyed his time at the cabin; gardening and enjoying the outdoors. There were always so many projects.

Jimmy is predeceased by his wife and greatest love of 67 years, Betty Jane Carr Bradshaw. He is survived by his daughter Leesia Taylor and husband (Ed), and grandson James and wife (Michelle).  Jimmy was also blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in Walters, Virginia at Mount Carmel Cemetery adjacent to Rivers United Church on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 1PM with Pastor John Hunter officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Wildlife Center of Virginia or the National Audubon Society.

Jimmy's family expresses their deepest gratitude and sincerest appreciation for the love and prayers received. Special thanks to all the wonderful people who cared for him; their kindness will always be remembered.
