Boykins – Jimmie Irving Vick, Sr., 78, went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2008. Mr. Vick was born in Logan, WV, on March 19, 1929 to the late Joseph B. and Lula Sexton Vick. Jimmie was the youngest of six children, grew up on a farm on Indian Town Road near Courtland, and was a 1949 graduate of Courtland High School. He served as a sergeant with the US Army 1st Division during the Korean War.
For many years, he was a salesman with White Way Foods and was the owner of Boykins Tire Company and Texaco. He worked as a sign painter and automobile refinisher in his spare time. An avid fisherman and gardener, Jimmie was a member of the American Legion in Boykins and a member and trustee of Berean Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jim I. Vick, Jr. of Boykins; his daughter, Nancy Vick Goldman and husband, David, of Norfolk; two grandsons, Jamie and Michael Jones of Norfolk; brother, Jack Vick; and sister, Louella Tisdale, both residents of the East Pavilion in Franklin, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Mr. Vick was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth, his second wife, Lucille, son, Steven Vick, brother, Joseph Vick, Jr, and sisters, Mildred Smith, Dorothy Richards, and Catherine Everett. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and our lives were greatly blessed with his presence and love.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 pm in the Berean Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Alvis officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
