Jerry Herman Beaton

Newsoms – Jerry Herman Beaton, 87, passed away September 24, 2026 in Southside Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Franklin, he was a son of the late John Herman Beaton and Dorothy Holland Beaton and was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Vick.

Jerry served in the US Navy and was a retired Captain with Franklin Fire and Rescue and a longtime Fire Instructor all across the state of Virginia. He was the owner of J & S Custom Builders and co-owner of His Mark Construction. Jerry was an avid golfer and woodworker. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and Newsoms Volunteer Fire Dept.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Shirley Francis Beaton; a son, Todd Kyle Beaton; a sister, Gloria Vick; foster brother, Donnie Metcalf; a granddaughter, Olivia Stalnik and her husband Dmitri; four great grandchildren, Bracey, Rosalie, Janelle, and Lorelei; and several nieces and nephews.

A Fireman’s Funeral will be held at 2PM Tuesday, September 29, 2026 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Wallace, Rev. Curtis Faison, and Chief Vince Holt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8PM in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Franklin Fire and Rescue or Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department.
