Obituary

Franklin – Jean Paige Coggsdale Vaughan, 88, passed away January 6, 2026 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born May 9, 1937 in Franklin to the late John W. Coggsdale Sr. and Bertha Harcum Coggsdale. Jean was predeceased by her husband, George Edward Vaughan Sr.; three brothers, Freddy Coggsdale, Shelton Coggsdale, and Hubert Coggsdale; two sisters Annette Harrell and Doris Carr; and a great grandchild, Dixie Rose Curley.  She was a devoted and loving wife to George for 60 years.

Jean was a graduate at Southampton high school. She worked at Southampton Memorial Hospital for a brief time before she married George in 1959 and began to raise a family. Jean was an excellent sibling, homemaker, wife, mother, and friend. She loved helping wherever she could especially with family and others who needed a helping hand. One of her favorite things to do was to read to children at schools in Franklin and Florida. She loved visiting her grandkids and their classrooms and telling them about her experiences and trips to different places. Jean loved her family and loved traveling to spend time with them whenever she could. She always made holidays and vacations special. She enjoyed walking on the beach, collecting shells, painting, dancing, working in the garden and flowerbeds, playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching them grow. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met and we will miss her dearly.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Debbie V. Puffer (Bruce), of Huntsville, Alabama and Terri V. Clark (Tim), of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sons, Billy Vaughan, (Dawn) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina and Eddie Vaughan Jr., (Angie) of Corapeake, North Carolina; two brothers, John W. Coggsdale Jr., (Shelby), and Ed Coggsdale, (Mary Carolyn); one sister, Evelyn Daughtry; ten grandchildren, Rachel Puffer Morris (Joe), Thomas Puffer, Esther Puffer, Ami Vaughan Summers (Justin), Lucas Clark, Tara Vaughan Curley (Chandler), Rebecca Vaughan, Ruth Puffer, Dylan Clark (Mariah), and Taylor Bracy (Lance); six great grandchildren, Jaxon Clark, Archer Morris, Adaline Curley, Willow Clark, Waylon Curley and Patrick Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyle Green officiating. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, January 16, 2026 in the funeral home.
