Franklin – Jean Elizabeth Scott Marks, 78, widow of Edward Lewis "Billy" Marks, III, died March 3, 2008. Born in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Marvin and Maud Raiford Scott. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her son, Edward L. "Ed" Marks, IV, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Martha Francis Marks and Edward L. Marks, V; one sister, Ann Scott Perkins (Bob) of Kalamazoo, Mi.; and one brother, E. M. "Buck" Scott, Jr. (Dolores) of Buxton, NC.; daughter-in-law, Annette Williams of Franklin; special friend, Irvin Porter of Franklin; nieces, Suzanne S. Duck, Stacy Scott, Cherie Peake, Phyllis Barham, and Wanda Brady; nephews, Todd Perkins, Robert Perkins, Charles Nixon, Tim Nixon, Kerry, Terry, Mike, Patrick Mc Broom; Dwayne Marks, Neal Marks and Eric Cox; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jean was a former secretary with S. W. Rawls, Inc. for 21 years and was a retired CEO of Marks Construction after 25 years. She was a former assistant registrar for the Southampton County Electorial Board and was a church organist for over 30 years at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, Franklin Womans Club, Cypress Cove Country Club, and was a Mary Washington College alumnus. She was an avid bridge and Mah-Jong player. She will be missed not only by her family, but by her many devoted friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. James W. Browder, III, and the Rev. James H. Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Thursday at Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorials be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, P. O.
