Jean Gordon
Cannon
Nov 11, 1948 — Jun 20, 2026
Courtland
Courtland - Jean Gordon Cannon, 77, joined her Heavenly Father on June 20, 2026 surrounded by family, after her courageous battle with cancer. Born in Emporia, VA she was the daughter of the late Howard F. Gordon and Margie C. Gordon. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Carroll Gene Cannon, and her son-in-law, Michael Woods.
Jean began her career as a telephone operator in Emporia, VA and then ended it retiring as the Secretary at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Following her retirement, she was very active in the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, High Street Seniors, and several other committees and clubs. She devoted her life to Christ and consistently displayed her faith in a way that touched so many hearts. Her strong love for God led her to visit many churches, even while traveling, however she was proud to call Sycamore Baptist Church her home. As a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, she spent her time serving on various committees with one of her favorites being the food committee, which allowed her to share her love of cooking and serving others.
She loved traveling across the country with family and friends, especially if it included camping with her husband and pets. One of her greatest joys was spending quality time with her family and seeing her family grow.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Tammy Cannon and Leslie Whitehead (Leonard), her two granddaughters, Kelsey Moore (Dale) and Kristen Perkins (Matthew), and two great grandchildren, Emery Moore and Barrett Perkins.
The funeral service will be held at 2PM on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Sycamore Baptist Church in Franklin, VA with Dr. Tracey Pugh and Rev. Hoyle Green officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Courtland, VA. The family has requested to only receive visitors at visitation which will begin at 1PM on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Sycamore Baptist Church.
