Sedley- John Daniel "J.D." Smith, III, 51, passed away March 16, 2015. J.D. was born in Fredericksburg and was a 1981 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church and a longtime papermaker on No. 1 paper machine at Union Camp/ International Paper. He was an avid NC State football and basketball fan and enjoyed fishing and history.

He was predeceased by his father, John D. Smith, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Eustace Smith of Franklin; his son, John Daniel Smith, IV of Yorktown; his sister, Dr. Kathy Smith and her fiancé, Mike Rhoades, of Wilmington, NC and his former wife, Yvette F. Smith of Boykins.

The funeral will be conducted 11 AM Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with the Rev. David A. Pouchot and Rev. Greg Kitts officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 PM and suggest memorial donations be made to the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
