Newsoms – Jane Edwards Darden, 77, died October 19, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Newsoms, a daughter of the late Roger Danwood and Lucille Brett Edwards. She was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church and a leader of Barnes MYF.
Jane had been a local Girl Scout leader and had served on the Women's Committee for Southampton County Farm Bureau. She had been a former bookkeeper and manager for Thornton and Livesay, Hastings Clothing, Carr CPA, Southern States, and was office manager-bookkeeper and treasurer for Darden and Son Farm Supply, Inc.
A dedicated caregiver and homemaker, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 59 years, John Ashley Darden; her son, John Ashley "Jay" Darden, Jr. and wife, Susan; two grandsons, Michael Brian Darden and Wesley Adam Darden; one sister, Betty Beauvais; two brothers, Earl Edwards, and Rudy Edwards. Jane was predeceased by two daughters, Nancy Rose Darden and Carolyn Jane Darden, and one brother, Roger D. "Dan" Edwards, Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Monday (today) at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to Barnes United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Betty Darden, 33701 Statesville Road, Newsoms, Va. 23874.
