Windsor – James Thomas "Jimmy" Carr, 82, widower of Margaret Irene Foster Carr, passed away on January 27, 2022 with family by his side. Born and raised in Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late William Holland Carr and Elsie Spivey Carr. He was also predeceased by a nephew, Holland Carr; a grandson, Bentley Ward; siblings, Billy Carr, Elsie Duke and her husband Matthew, and Mary Butler; and a brother-in-law, Jack Pettit.
Jimmy attended Campbell University where he excelled in baseball. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War and a retired Roll Finishing Supervisor with Union Camp Corporation with 39 years of service. He was also a retired farmer.
He loved playing softball with the church and friends and played competitively until he was 58 and was still good. He loved people and never met a stranger. Jimmy was a member, former deacon, and served on the Building and Grounds Committee at Colosse Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Levon Carr Calloway (John), Travis Bracey (Ann), Gwen Chapman (Pete), Kit Ward (Jeff), and Laura Carr; a sister, Frances Pettit; a brother, John E. Carr (Mae); a sister-in-law, Pat Carr; a brother-in-law, Robert Butler, Sr.; nine grandchildren, Brandii (John), Krystal (Will), Shane (Jordan), John (Sarah), Bryan (Shelby), Tyler, Troy, Hunter, and Forrest; and ten great grandchildren, Ethan, Ally, Jaxon, Gabby, Johnny, Adalyne, Jase, Wyatt, Lynnleigh, and Lennon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special friend, Nancy O'Berry; and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Nancy Foster.
The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Carolyn, Mary, Shannon and LaToya for their kindness given.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM Monday, January 31, 2022 in Colosse Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Webb officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM prior the service in the church and at other times at Laura's home. Memorial donations may be made to Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
