Obituary

Como, NC- James E. Stalter, U.S. Navy (Retired) died October 14, 2015 at age 84.

He was a native of Newry, PA and lived in Como since 1976.

During his 25 year Navy career he rose through the ranks from Seaman Recruit to Lieutenant Commander. He served on board two ships that saw action during the Korean conflict and earned a Navy Combat ribbon for actions seen during his two tours. As a commissioned officer he served two times at the former US Naval Facility Cape Hatteras at Buxton, NC, first as Executive Officer and as Commanding Officer in his second tour.

He earned an associate degree (business) at Roanoke Chowan Community College shortly after leaving the Navy. He was a past member of Mensa and Intertel. None of his health problems affected his outlook on life. He managed to find humor in most all aspects of life and especially joked with family regarding the six cancers he survived.

He was predeceased by his wife Vera. Survivors include his son, Michael of Arizona and two daughters, Patricia Copeland of Roanoke Rapids and Lisa Ann Blazer (Retired US Navy) of Jacksonville, NC, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA from 4 to 6PM Saturday, October 17, 2015. Cremation will follow with inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Como Fire Department or the Ruritan Club, Como, NC 27818
