Courtland – James Herbert "Jim" Ward, 56, a retired farmer, died December 12, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was born in Franklin, a son of the late Mildred Scott and Beecher Henry Ward, Jr. and was predeceased by a brother, Charles Henry Ward, Sr. Jim was a graduate of Tidewater Academy and a member of Courtland Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 34 years, Shelia Ellis Ward; one daughter, Michelle Ward Dowler (Thomas) of Courtland; one son, Thomas H. Ward of Courtland; one granddaughter, Cynthia Jewel Dowler; and two sisters, Judy W. Wells of Hopewell and Brenda W. Bradshaw of Greenville, SC.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 pm Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Kingdom Life Ministry, 105 South College Drive, Franklin, with the Rev. Matthew Kidd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, 18080 Johnson's Mill Road, Sedley, Va. 23878. Wright Funeral Home is assisting the family.
