Franklin - James F. Briggs, Jr., 94, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, J. Floyd and Louise B. Briggs; his wife Mary Winston Johnson Briggs; and his daughter Elizabeth A. Briggs. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy B. Petters (Mike); two granddaughters, Sarah P. Fletcher (Dan) and Caroline P. Sauer (Chris); and four great-grandchildren, Marin E. Fletcher, Everett M. Fletcher, Marshall B. Sauer, and Harrison V. Sauer.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11 AM in the chapel of Franklin Baptist Church. No flowers, please. In lieu thereof, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 208 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851, or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family is grateful for the loving care of Dayana Louis, Tamara André, Maggy Joachim, Manisa Jones, Ciarra Monestime, Jasmine Morris, Constance Paige, Tammy Perry, Jerrica Williams, and the staff at The Huntington in Newport News.
