Courtland- James Porter "Jimmy" Babb, 70, passed away September 17, 2016 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a son of the late Harwood F. Babb, Sr and Frances Porter Babb. He was predeceased by his wife Linda Lassiter Babb.

Jimmy was a retired Farm Manager for the Virginia Department of Corrections and was a US Navy Veteran. He was a graduate of Southampton High School and had attended Hargrave Military Academy and Old Dominion University. Jimmy was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and the Manry Hunt Club

Survivors include one son, Mark A. Babb of Zuni, one brother, Harwood F. "Woody" Babb, Jr and his wife Mary of Smithfield, his nephew Christopher Babb, great nephew and niece, Aaron and Kala Babb all of Virginia Beach and a sister-in-law, Kay L. Joyner and her husband Clint of Smithfield, NC and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside funeral will be held at 2PM Monday, September 19, 2016 at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins with William Hart Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6PM at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin and suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
