Sedley- Joseph English "J. E." Howell, 87, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on February 18, 2021 after a long illness.  Born in Isle of Wight County and raised in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Linwood Henry Howell, Sr. and Daisy English Howell.  J. E. was also predeceased by two sisters, Martha H. Barnes and Anna H. Holland and three brothers, Linwood Howell, Jr., Ray Howell, and Alfred Howell.

J. E. was an Army veteran, a former Virginia State Trooper and retired from the Department of Agriculture.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Diane Wright Howell; three children, David Howell (Donna), Dana Howell, and Susan Howell Jordan (Paul); a brother, James "Archie" Howell (Emy); seven grandchildren, Ryland Carmack, Rob Carmack (Ashley), Savannah "Hannah" Carmack, Nichalous "Nick" Jordan, Kane Jordan, Corey Howell, and Emilie Grace Howell; one great grandchild, Collin Thomas Carmack; and a close niece, Rebecca Harden.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2PM Thursday, February 25, 2021, in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley with the Rev. James W. Browder, III officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30PM before the service in Wright Funeral Home.
