Norfolk – Howard Ernest Sherburne, 67, passed away May 2, 2025 with his best friend Tina by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin E. Sherburne and Jane Elizabeth Dolloff Sherburne and one sister, Elizabeth A. Sherburne Miller.
Howard is survived by his children, Howard E. Sherburne, Jr. and Charles P. Sherburne; eight siblings, Martin, Brenda, Roland, Vanita, Kathy, John, Walter, and Randolph; four grandchildren who had nicknamed him "Grumpy Pants"; many nieces and nephews; and his long-time friend, Tina from the Navy.
After graduating from Tri County High School, he enlisted into the Navy. His basic training was in Great Lakes, IL where he completed "A" school training for Fire Control Technician. Howard was assigned to the USS Nimitz CVAN 68 in August of 1976 and enjoyed two med cruises visiting several different ports. He participated in filming the movie The Final Countdown. His enlistment ended October 1979.
Howard worked many different jobs especially government contracts with the DOD for the Navy. He retired from AAA as a roadside assistant with 25 years of service driving a tow truck. He spent his last years getting treatments for an incurable disease.
