Obituary

Elizabeth City, NC - Hershel Morton Hill, formally of the Suffolk, VA area, passed away June 30, 2010 at Carolina House, Elizabeth City, NC. He was 95. He was born in Westfield, IN to Ludovic and Hazel Hill on December 22, 1914. He was a retired Friends (Quaker) Minister having served in the ministry with his wife Janetta for nearly 70 years. They ministered in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. He served as Secretary of the NC Friends Yearly Meeting in the 70's. After his retirement he and his wife volunteered at Obici Hospital and in nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Janetta Ruth Messner Hill; a son, Robert Frederick Hill and wife Janie Stallings Hill of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Elsie Hill Pinkston and husband Lonnie of Ft. Pierce, FL; grandsons, Anthony Hill of Alexandra VA, Jeffery Pinkston and Randy Pinkston of FL and Craig Pinkston of MT; a granddaughter, Dawn Hill Beasley of Maryville, TN; a great grandson Tommy Pinkston of FL; sisters, Ruth Esther King of Greencastle, IN and Edith Bruner of Warrenville, IL; two nieces and one nephew.
Memorial services will be July 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Up River Friends Meeting in Belvidere, NC by ministers David Hobson and Wallace Sills. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Up River Friends Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Quaker minister's retirement fund, Share the Blessing, 4811 Hilltop Rd. Greensboro, NC, 27407, the Up River Building Fund or the charity of your choice. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, Va., is assisting the family.
