Obituary

Franklin- Hazel Anne "Abie" Condrey, 88, passed away October 22, 2019 in the East Pavilion surrounded by her family. Abie was born in Enfield, NC and was a daughter of the late Paul and Hazel Caddell Condrey. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Betty Appleby and Polly Cook, a nephew John Paul Cook, special aunts Jeanne Gooden and Ruth Walker and her lifelong friend Ruth Baker. Abie was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and was a graduate of the DePaul Medical School of Nursing. She went on to earn her Nurse Anesthetist Certification at Norfolk General Hospital. She worked as a nurse anesthetist for many years in Richmond at MCV. Abie was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the James L. Camp, Jr. YMCA where she was a faithful attendee of Maggie Evan's aerobics class for many years. She was an accomplished equestrian and a lover of all animals.

Left to cherish her memory are six nieces, Jennifer Shaffer, Jessica Taylor, Kate Loy, Lisa Bischoff, Amy Hayner, Emma Williams, great nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Abie's caregiver Lizzie Darden.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 6 PM Friday, October 25, 2019 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Decker officiating. There will be a reception at Fred's Restaurant following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Isle of Wight County Animal Services, 13044 Poor House Rd.
