Carrsville – Hazel Barnes Butler Bradshaw, 87, passed away November 15, 2017. Growing up in the south, food was always what brought the family together. Grandma Hazel would spend hours in the kitchen, kneading dough and mixing batter, pouring love into every bowl. What she learned from her mother she tried to impart to her children and her grandchildren. The reward was countless hours spent laughing and sharing stories in her kitchen and getting together with our friends and family to enjoy foods prepared especially for each of us. Hazel Barnes Butler Bradshaw was born on January 23, 1930 in Carrsville where she lived all of her life. Hazel attended James Madison University. She loved to crochet, and made many afghans for newborns in our community over several generations. She loved to take pictures of the family she cherished. She worked on the family farm with her husband of 49 years, Joel Clinton Bradshaw, Jr. and now they will be together again. They loved to travel all around the world. Hazel raised five sons who are all Eagle Scouts. But, her pride and joy was her 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She leaves behind Colonel Joel Bradshaw III and his wife Unha, of Carrsville, their children Lisa and Lt Col. Jason Ohrenberger of Las Vegas, Nevada, Clara, David, and Heidi, Dr. Linda and Shane Jones of Charleston, South Carolina and Timothy and Jacob Bradshaw of Carrsville; Donnie and Kathy Bradshaw of Rincon Georgia, and their children Jessica and Matthew Gregory of Chickamauga, Georgia, Tate and Cora, and Stephanie and Arman Talentino of Decatur, Georgia and Eli; Jim and Pam Bradshaw of Camden, SC and their children Tim Newman of Charlotte NC, Rebecca, David, and William; Tracy and Shannon West of Camden, SC, Hampton and Elizabeth, and Gavin and Rebekah Bradshaw of Charleston, SC; Phillip and Stella Bradshaw of Carrsville, VA and their children Rebecca and Matthew Zelman of Centreville, VA, Noah and Lucas, Malissa Bradshaw of Richmond, and Kateland Bradshaw of Carrsville; Andy and Ronda Bradshaw of Carrsville and their children Lt. Commander Rachel Bradshaw of Maryland, and Amanda Sharpe of Carrsville, Kylie and Zoey. Hazel leaves behind a brother Russell Butler and his wife Kaye of Baltimore Maryland. She is predeceased by her parents Richard and Berta Butler, a sister Jean Moore, and a brother Richard "Dick" Butler, Jr.

Hazel was a member of both Beaverdam Baptist church and Colosse Baptist Church rarely missing a Sunday. She was a member of the Eager Beavers, the Melvin Bradshaw Circle, and the Happy Homemakers. When her sons were younger she was active in Cub Pack 37 and was instrumental in its formation. Hazel worked at People's Drug for more than 20 years. She was a great and humble lady, one of the last of her kind. She will be greatly missed.

Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held on Saturday November 18th at Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin at 2 PM. The family will receive guests at Beaverdam Baptist Church immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers Hazel would like donations to be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church.
