Obituary

Haywood Garland Lowe, Sr., 88, passed away June 5, 2007. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and a son of the late Saint Luke and Mable Drewry Lowe. A retired farmer, he was an Army veteran of WWII who served in the European theatre and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lowe was a former member of the Ivor Ruritan Club, a former board member of the Community Electric Cooperative, and a former buyer for Severn Peanut Company and Hancock Peanut Company. He was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mable L. Lowe; two daughters, Peggy L. Davis and husband, Raymond, of Courtland and Rosalind Faye Lowe of Portsmouth; a son,
H. Garland Lowe, Jr. and wife, Gina, of Ivor; four sisters, Louise Holt of Windsor, Inez Holt of Ivor, Elise Asbell of Suffolk and Juanita Rouse of Louisiana; four grandchildren, Garnet Gilmore, Velvet Georgitsis, Melissa Rose, and Shelly Branche; four great-grandchildren, Amber Alcaraz, Adam Gilmore, Kaylee Branche and Jenna Branche. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Warren and Sadie Turner.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home,
Franklin, with the Rev. Curtis Faison, Rev. Greg Kitts and Rev. Willis Switzer officiating. Interment will follow in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Peggy and Raymond Davis, 20228 Plank Rd., Courtland, and suggests memorials be made to Black Creek Baptist Church, 34163 Vicksville Rd., Franklin, VA 23851.
