Newsoms – Guy Pope "Buddy" Rountree, Jr., 64, died October 20, 2009 from injuries sustained in a farming accident. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was the son of the late Guy Pope and Elizabeth Worrell Rountree. He was also predeceased by a sister, Rebecca R. Dubrowsky and a granddaughter, Mallory E. Wright. Buddy was a longtime farmer, and along with his son, operated Rountree Farms. He was a member of the Newsoms Town Council, Newsoms Hunt Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, and a former coach for the Newsoms Athletic Association. Buddy was a lifelong member of Newsoms United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Sandra Ellis Rountree; his daughter, Laura R. Wright (Ricky); his son, Brian P. Rountree (Holly), all of Newsoms; and four grandchildren, Mason and Madison Wright and Taylor and Hunter Rountree.
The funeral will be conducted Friday at 11am at Newsoms United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darwin Edwards and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Thursday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Jenny Bunn, P. O.
