Como, NC – Grady Livingston "Duff" Sumner, 91, passed away March 6, 2018 in Gaston, NC. A native and life-long resident of Como, he was the son of the late Wallace and Georgia Howell Sumner. He was also predeceased by his wife Frances Bobbitt Sumner; a sister Ruth Boone; and four brothers Walter, Lokie, Fred, and J. W. Sumner. Duff was a WWII Army veteran and a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church and the American George Masonic Lodge. He was a long time farmer, truck driver, retired deputy sheriff, and ABC officer. "Uncle Duff", as he was known by all the kids in the neighborhood, is survived by one son Steve D. Sumner and his wife Paige of Murfreesboro; one grandson Braxton Sumner; nieces, nephews and cousins including a special nephew Johnny Sumner and a special cousin Charlie Sumner.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 in the Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Chris Blythe officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Como Volunteer Fire Dept. or Buckhorn Baptist Church. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA is in charge of arrangements.
