Franklin – John Graden "Grady" Britt, 79, former Chief of Police for the City of Franklin from 1980-1990, passed away August 29, 2012. He was born in Bladen County, NC, a son of the late Carey Britt and Gladys Britt Dowless and was predeceased by three sisters and a brother. Grady was an Army veteran, a graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College, the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA, and was an officer for 30 years with the Franklin Police Department. He was a 50 year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #151 AF&AM and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Ginger" Davis Britt; two daughters, Sherry Britt Wilson and Katharine H. Britt; four sons, John G. Britt, Jr., Michael L. Britt, Joel Jacob Britt (Nichole) and John Landon Britt; six grandchildren, Jack Britt, Caleb Wilson, Ted Britt, Billy Britt, Jameson Britt and Cailin Britt and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, August 31, 2012 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorials be made the Sycamore Baptist Church, 31120 Sycamore Church Rd., Franklin, VA 23851.
