Obituary

Franklin – Gladys Elizabeth Bunn Shaw, 96, formerly of Portsmouth, died February 17, 2008. Born in Newsoms, she was a daughter of the late John Norman and Laura Addie Porter Bunn and was predeceased by her devoted husband of 69 years, Harry Herberner Shaw. Gladys was also predeceased by four sisters, Fannie B. Spain, Ruby B. Fowler, Evelyn B. Ferrell, and Ethel B. Saunders; four brothers, Ray, Edward, Jack, and Bennie Bunn.
Gladys had been a lifetime member of the Methodist Church including Newsoms, Craddock, Centenary, and High Street in Franklin and served on the Altar Guild and was a former president of the United Methodist Women at Centenary. She was a former member of the Green Pines Garden Club in Portsmouth.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Shaw Bowden and husband, Peyton, of Essex Junction, Vt.; two grandchildren, Stephen Todd Bowden of Fairfax, Va. and Elizabeth Bowden Nuckols and husband, David, of Essex Junction, two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Elizabeth Nuckols and Christopher Randolph Nuckols; her sister, Bernice B. Decker of Lynchburg; and a host of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Annie Laurie Sykes of Courtland Healthcare Center.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A. M. Wednesday at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, immediately followed by a memorial service at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ellen W. Comstock will officiate. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church recreational hall following the service. Memorials may be made to a church or charity of choice. Family and friends will assembly at 10:30 A. M. at Centenary United Methodist Church for the procession to Olive Branch Cemetery.
