Obituary

Courtland – Gerbert Lee "G. L." Williams, 84, died peacefully September 25, 2007 at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach, Fl. Born in Isle of Wight County, he was a son of the late Stephen Dallas and Mattie Askew Williams. He was a retired automobile dealer and the former owner & operator of Williams Chrysler-Plymouth in Courtland, Va. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, and the Korea War. He proudly served on the USS Alabama during WWII. He attended Vero Beach Community Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra W. Hightower and husband, Mark, of Boynton Beach, Fl.; sister, Dorothy Page Hill of Courtland; grandchild, Kayce Barnes of Virginia Beach; sons-in-law, Joe Lagana and Tom Lis, both of Virginia Beach; special friend, Gerry Ozgowitz and neighbors, Ken and Violet Dants, all of Vero Beach; several nieces and nephews; and his devoted pet, Peanut. Gerbert was predeceased by a daughter, Linda W. Lagana, a sister, Evelyn Cabell, and two brothers, Shelton and Lister Williams.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be conducted at 2 p. m. Sunday at St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, with the Rev. Thomas Speight officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Saturday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest memorials be made to USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, P. O. 65, Mobile, Al. 36601. He will be greatly missed, but in our hearts always.
