Newsoms – Geraldine "Gerry" Cates Everett, 74, passed away on March 14, 2012 at the East Pavilion. Born March 4, 1938, in Haw River, NC, Gerry was a daughter of the late David and Mildred Cates. She graduated from Haw River High School then went to High Point Memorial School where she received her Registered Nursing degree. Gerry worked as a nurse at the old Raiford Memorial Hospital in Franklin and served later as a private duty nurse in the area. She loved the outdoors whether it was just tending her garden picking produce or just sitting under the beech tree watching the world go by. Gerry was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years, Joseph L. "Joe" Everett, Sr., daughter, Marie Everett Hutchings and husband, Bill, son, Joseph "Les" Everett, Jr., brother, David Cates and grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Jonathan and Abigail Hutchings and Kimberly Everett.
A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms with Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 17th at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barnes United Methodist Church, General Fund, 33701 Statesville Road Newsoms, VA 23874.
