Branchville, VA- George Lenton Smith, "Smitty", 82, passed away December, 17, 2011. He was the son of the late James "Buddy" and Ronie Mae Smith. Born and raised in Southampton County, Smitty enjoyed doing work as a member of the Branchville Fire Department and helping others. He was a retired truck driver, who was proud of his driving accomplishments. He served in the army during the Korean War.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 59 years, Geraldine F. Smith, of Branchville, VA; a son, Jerry Smith of Branchville, VA; two grandchildren, Jay Smith of Branchville, VA and Jennifer Deloatch and husband Robert of Conway, and four great-grandchildren, Jada, Destiny, Jayla, and Julius; a sister, Mavis Johnson of Gibsonton, FL, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Boykins with the Rev. Larry Cribb officiating. Burial will be at Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 PM, Monday, and suggest memorials be made to Branchville Volunteer Fire Department in lieu of flowers. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
