Mechanicsville – George Jordan Lane Close, 80, passed away peacefully February 7, 2019 in his son's home.  Born, reared, and educated in Southampton County, he was a son of the late William Kenneth Close and Mildred Cary Lane Close and was also predeceased by his wife Sandra Vaughan Close; five brothers William Kenneth Close, Jr., Lane Close, John W. "Jack" Close, Bob Close, and David Close; and a sister Cary Close.  George was an Army Veteran and owner of Close Contracting Company.

Survivors include a daughter Tracey Close Pulliam (T.W.) of Richmond; a son George Ashley Close of Mechanicsville; two sisters Elizabeth Lee (Alan) and Mary Leigh Babb; a brother Kenneth D. Close (Sandra); three grandchildren Sydney Pulliam, Trent Pulliam, and Bella Close; and nieces and nephews.
