Suffolk – George Samuel Drewry, 83, widower of Rose Baugham Drewry, died March 14, 2008. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Hattie West and Irvin Duck Drewry and was also predeceased by a brother, Earl F. Drewry and three sisters Martha Lou Drewry, Elsie Beasley and Nell Ashby. He was an Army veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theatre and thirty years in the US Army Reserve. George was a retired Superintendent of Maintenance at Deerfield Correctional Center in Capron and former owner/operator of George S. Drewry Plumbing and Electrical. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a former member of the Holy Neck-South Quay Ruritan Club.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon Drewry of Suffolk and Allen Edwards Drewry and his wife Carol of Franklin; three grandchildren, Kelly D. Coe and husband Russell, Samuel Lee Drewry and wife Jessica and Phillip Allen Drewry; five great-grandchildren, Hailey Danielle Coe, Matthew Gordon Coe, Joshua Lee Drewry, Makenzie Leiann Drewry, Brianna Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted Monday at 2 pm at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Clyde Alderman officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. The family will receive friends today (Sunday) from 7 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.Box 1224, Franklin, Va 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
