George F. Arrington

Suffolk - George Fitzhugh Arrington, 76, second generation carpenter, passed away in his sleep March 6, 2007. Born in Isle of Wight County, he was a son of the late William Edward and Estelle Hand Arrington. A Sergeant First class, he served in Korea in the Army, was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol, member of the auxiliary of the US Air Force and a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America Troop 22. He was a lifetime member of the Holland Ruritan Club, member of VFW Post 4411, vice president NWTF Chapter of Nansemond Longspurs, committee member NWTF Tidewater Chapter, QDMA Vice –President and honorary member of Community Hunt Club. He was a member of Holland Baptist Church, the Brotherhood of Holland Baptist Church and ordained a deacon from South Quay Baptist Church. He was employed at Ervin Molding and Trim Company of Suffolk and was a former employee of Bear Construction, Verlina Homes and George S. Drewry Plumbing and Electric.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Peggy Ann Brinkley Arrington; three daughters, Janet Leigh Joyner and husband, Lee, JoAnn Booth, Judy Kaye Pope and husband, Gary; a son, George Michael Arrington and wife, Glynda; seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann Joyner, Brian Joyner, Stephen and Rebecca Arrington, Daniel and Jonathan Booth and Amanda Pope; a great-grandchild, Christine Amelia Booth; seven sisters, Sarah A. Umphlett, Mildred A. Cobb, Dana A. Gayle, Mary Virginia Satterfield, Willie Mae Umphlett, Rose Marie Umphlett and Lois Marshall and a brother, James A. Arrington. He was predeceased by two brothers, William C. and Archie L. Arrington.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Robert W. Bunn and Rev. Clyde Alderman officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
