Obituary

Franklin – Genevieve "Gen" Hopko Groenestyn, 65, passed away May 16, 2026 in her home.  Born in Nyack, New York and raised in upstate New York, she was a daughter of the late Joseph P. Hopko, Jr. and Marie Conklin Hopko and was also predeceased by a sister, Marie Bernadette Hopko.

Gen was a retired General Manager formerly for Arby's and Hardee's.  She enjoyed sitting on her deck with a cup of coffee watching the hummingbirds and traveling to her favorite campgrounds spending time with friends. Gen always prioritized spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events and dedicated many years to fostering children that she considered her own.

Left to cherish her memory are her partner of 15 years, Wayne Umphlett;  two daughters, Laura Mack (Doran) and Sherri Woody (Steve); a son, John Groenestyn (Mandy); three sisters, Jean Healy, Agnes Van Strander, and Lisa Watson; a brother Joseph P. Hopko, III; five grandchildren, Casey Logan Woody, Josalyn Nicole Groenestyn, Karli Rayne Woody, Madalyn Grace Groenestyn, and Logan Jett Woody; a great grandchild, Aradia Rose Woody-Rini; and two fur babies, Oreo and Cookie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 beginning at 4PM at Gen's House at 2165 Carrsville Highway, Franklin.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Sunday, May 24, 2026 in Wright Funeral Home with Mr. Buddy Wagner officiating.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made in Gen's memory to any favorite charity.
