Gene Andrew Edwards, 71, passed away July 24, 2008. Born on March 25, 1937 in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Andrew Franklin and Virginia Collins Edwards.
Left to cherish Gene's memory are his loving wife, Sylvia Powell Edwards; two sons, Drew Edwards and wife, Kathy Jo, and their children Andrew, Cody and Ann Jackson and Greg Edwards and wife, Teresa, and their children Seth, Will and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister, Floydette Ewing and husband, Bill; his niece, Sharon Pitt and husband, Ken, and their son, Patrick.
Gene graduated from Southampton High School and became a farmer on the land that he loved in Little Texas, Va. He was a member of Boykins Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years, participated in the Berean Sunday School Class, served as a Deacon and had recently been installed as a Life Deacon. He was an avid hunter and was a member of the Little Texas Hunt Club serving as its president for over thirty years.
The funeral service will be held at Boykins Baptist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with burial at Beechwood Cemetery. Following the service the family will receive friends at Boykins Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Memorial donations may be sent to Boykins Baptist Church, P.O.
