Virginia Beach - Roy Rose passed away at age 101 on December 11, 2012 in Conyers GA where he had resided for the past 11 years. He was born in Edenton, NC on March 26, 1911, the son of the late Mary Shields Yates Rose and John Baker Rose. He was a Coast Guard veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. A resident of the Thoroughgood neighborhood in Virginia Beach for over 40 years, he spent his career in sporting goods sales with C. Lloyd Johnson, Inc. in Norfolk. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed baseball, bowling, fishing and especially golf, playing for many years at Lake Wright Golf Course. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Windley Rose and his second wife, Dorothy Gillette Balfour Rose. He is survived by stepchildren, Daniel T. Balfour (Jane) of Richmond VA and Meta B. Jones (Mike) of Conyers, GA, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and other family and friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 17, at 4:00 pm at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin, VA. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
