Franklin, Va. – Frederick Byrd Jones, Sr., 81, passed away April 6, 2007. He was born on August 9, 1925 in Isle of Wight County to Richard M. & Carrie Wells Jones. A retiree of Union Camp Corporation with over 30 years of service and a lifelong patriot, he served in the United States Navy during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. As a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, he served in various capacities. He is predeceased by six brothers, Leigh Brock Jones, Henry Jones, Paul Jones, Thomas Jones, Walter Jones and Richard Jones, and two sisters Leafy J. Golden and Susie J. Golden. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Ann Jones. He will be greatly missed by two sons and daughters-in-law: Frederick B. Jones, Jr. (Slim) and wife, Julie B. Jones, and John Perry Jones and wife, Constance K. Jones and his granddaughter, Erin Leigh Wilson. Surviving him are sisters-in-law Alice W. Jones, Fannie S. Jones, Jean U. Wilmoth and husband, Tommy Wilmoth, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday evening from 7-8:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 9 at 2 pm with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. A reception in celebration of his life will be held at the Franklin Congregational Christian Church following interment with military honors at Poplar Spring Cemetery.
