Wilmington, NC – Franklin Charles Smith, 87, formerly of Norfolk, Va., died February 25, 2008. Born in Onnancock County, Va., he was a son of the late William Spencer and Ruth Custis Smith and the widower of Doris Lee Petet Smith. Mr. Smith was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II and a retired Chief Petty Officer from the U. S. Coast Guard. While living in Norfolk, he owned and operated several service stations.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda S. Zielinski and husband, Frank,of Bay City, Mi., Betty Jo Martin and husband, Bill, of Norfolk, Va., Judy S. Camp and husband, Tom, of Poquoson, Va.; one son, Ray Smith and wife, Linda, of Franklin, Va. ; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, Va., has charge of arrangements.
