Courtland – Franklin Lon Davis, III, 64, died November 17, 2007. He was born in Southampton County, the son of the late Adelle Barkley and Frank L. Davis, Jr.
Lon was retired from Union Camp Corporation as a Quality Control Inspector after 40 years service, and a member of Courtland United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and a former member of the Manry Hunt Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mary M. Davis; a step-daughter, Dana M. Hunnings and husband, Ronnie, of Courtland; a step-son, W. Dean Whitehurst and wife, Jennifer, of Franklin; one sister, Veronica D. "Ronnie" Claud and husband, John T. Claud, Jr. of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Madison, Connor, and Braeden Whitehurst and Emily Hunnings; four nephews, John T. Claud, III, and wife Christie, William F. Claud, Stephen M. Claud and wife, Susan, Gregory D. Claud; three great-nieces, C. Blair Claud, Katie and Cortney O'Connor; two great-nephews, Justin D. Claud and C. Blake Claud; good friend and neighbor, E. Warren Beale, Jr.; and Lon's faithful companion, Abby.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Rev. Richard Gordon and the Rev. Matthew Kidd officiating.
