Frances Shapland Odell, 83,of Richmond, passed away January 13, 2015 at her home. She was born in Essex County and was a daughter of the late Rev. Richard H. Shapland, former Newsoms Methodist Church minister, and Annie Swann Shapland. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Burgess Odell, Sr. and a grandson, Kevin Odell. Frances was a 1949 graduate of Newsoms High School and a former employee of the old Raiford Hospital in Franklin.

Left to cherish her memory are five children, Fred B. Odell, Jr. (Annie), Cynthia O. Lacy (Butch), Gail Kerrick (Jason) , Kinney Odell (Sarah) and Howard Odell (Della); two sisters, Iva S. Brown and Ann S. Stephens, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 at Wright Funeral Home, 206 West 4th Ave., Franklin, VA with Rev. Rita Kanten officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley, VA . Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
